Hari's Promise to Govardhan

Today the Govardhan lila is celebrated with great enthusiasm. Govardhan is a very special mountain. He does not belong to Vrindavan, he was born from the Himalayas. He's the greatest devotee of the lord. When shree Ram was building the setu to Lanka with the help of Vanar army, Hanuman decided to complete the construction by bringing the biggest Rock he could find. In that pursuit he went to Himalayas and broke off a piece of the ranges that was Giriraj Govardhan. He carried it and as he was bringing it to the south of India, midway he got the message that the piece of rock would not be needed as construction is almost complete. Hanuman had to leave the mountain Giriraj near Mathura. He complained that he is really disappointed that he won't get to be part of Lord's lila. Then Hanuman ji brought this message to Shri Ram after which the Lord promised him that in his next Avatar he'd include him in his Lila.

As Krishna avatar, bhagwan asked the people of Vrindavan to stop worshipping Indra and start offering prayers and worshipping the Giriraj. When hearing this Indra became enraged and couldn't understand that it's God's own order and not some kid's tantrum. Hearing krishna's request, the people of Braj started worshipping Giriraj and Indra in response started incessant reason for seven days and seven nights. Krishna lifted Govardhan hill and asked everyone to come under the hill for protection. Everyone started to see that how special Govardhan hill is who's absorbing the attack of Indra and giving them all protection and that's how the Lord fulfilled his promise to his one of the greatest devotee Govardhan.
